The Town of Elm City, originally called the "Town of Toisnot" was incorporated on December 18, 1873., and recently celebrated its 150th birthday in 2023.
Welcome to the Town of Elm City; The place where we pride ourselves in being a town small enough to know you by name. Our quaint town of roughly 1300 people is adjacent to Highway 301 between Wilson and Rocky Mount, NC. The Honorable Mayor Tawanda Moore was elected in the November 2021 municipal elections as Elm City's first Black Female Mayor.

Alice Nicholson Spivey (b. 2 Dec 1909 - d. 16 Dec 1984)
donated land to the Town of Elm City. Spivey Park, named in her honor, has recently been upgraded in 2023-2024.
Known throughout all of North Carolina and the nation, Coach Harvey Reid proudly led students of Frederick Douglass, Elm City and Ralph L. Fike High Schools. With a proud state-record of 818 wins and seven state championships, this educator, mentor, coach and friend, has definitely left a great impact on the Town of Elm City. A mural honoring Coach Harvey Reid will soon be featured on the side of the "old" Elm City Furniture store in the downtown area.
